RB Jones to visit Bucs next week

Former Lions running back Kevin Jones is scheduled to visit the Bucs next week.

Jones, who is recovering from knee surgery, met with the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, according to Dr. D.S. Ping, who is helping Jones rehabilitate his injury.

Jones conducted a workout June 29 in Saline, Mich., that was attended by representatives from four teams -- the Dolphins, Packers, Steelers and Lions.

Jones missed the first two games last season recovering from a foot injury that sidelined him for the final three games of 2006. Last season, he rushed for at least 70 yards in five games, including a season high 105, before injuring his right knee Dec. 23 against the Chiefs. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry in the Lions win over Tampa Bay last season.

Where the 5-foot-11, 225-pound Jones would fit into the Bucs' backfield is uncertain. Tampa Bay has Earnest Graham, Warrick Dunn and Michael Bennett at tailback. Cadillac Williams, who also is recovering from knee surgery, figures to begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

While Jones appears ahead of schedule, he could be limited to no contact in training camp for a few weeks. But Jones has no problem going to a team that will use the committee approach at running back.
