Bucs trade Buenning, re-acquire Mahan

The Bucs have traded guard Dan Buenning to the Chicago Bears for an undisclosed draft pick while simultaneously re-acquiring guard Sean Mahan in a trade with the Steelers.

Tampa Bay will give Pittsburgh an undisclosed 2009 pick for Mahan, who was drafted by the Bucs in the fifth round in 2003 but left as a free agent last season. Mahan apparently is viewed by the Bucs to be a bit of an upgrade from Buenning, who according to coach Jon Gruden has struggled to regain his form after a November 2006 knee injury. Last season, Buenning was inactive for all 16 regular-season games and the wildcard contest.

Buenning was a fourth-round pick (107th overall) in 2005 and played in 25 games with 23 starts in his career. Mahan started all 16 games for the Steelers in 2007 but was unseated by Justin Hartwig as the starting center.
