Is Jay Gruden up for a promotion?
We told you on Tuesday that tight ends coach Bob Casullo appears to be on the outs.
Now, guess who is under consideration to replace him: Jay Gruden.
Coach Jon Gruden's younger brother might slide up the totem pole on the staff hierarchy, possibly going from a general "offensive assistant" role to full-fledged position coach. This move was made much more likely by the recent demise of the Arena Football League, for which Jay coached the Orlando Predators.
Jay, 41, had split duties between the Bucs and Predators before now. But he suddenly finds himself in the market for a full-time job.
If this move is consummated, it would be another sign that Jon Gruden isn't going anywhere. Maybe that's taking too much of a leap, but I doubt it. The fact that Raheem Morris has already been named defensive coordinator and, now, the potential hiring of Gruden's brother are indications that Gruden clearly wields considerable influence at One Buc Place and his job does not appear to be in jeaopardy.
