Bucs pass on Linehan as O.C.; joins Lions
Former Rams coach Scott Linehan will not be the Bucs next offensive coordinator.
Linehan was hired as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, according to reports.
General manager Mark Dominik and coach Raheem Morris met with Linehan on Wednesday. Although his credentials as the Vikings and Dolphins coordinator are impressive, the Bucs simply decided he wasn't the right fit.
Linehan was an offensive coordinator with the Vikings (2002-04) and Dolphins (2005). In Minnesota, his offense ranked second, first and fourth in the NFL.
The Bucs also have an interest in Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey and former Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. However, the Chiefs haven't granted permission for the Bucs to interview Gailey.
The Bucs hired Jim Bates as their defensive coordinator Thursday.
"As we started wth defense, we started with offense the same day and formulated our list,'' Dominik said. "We're continuing to talk with people on that list.''
A good possibility is promoting quarterbacks coach Greg Olson to offensive coordinator.
