Boston College TE Ryan Purvis added to roster
There have been a few changes to the Buccaneers' minicamp roster today.
The most notable is the addition of TE Ryan Purvis of Boston College, who was signed to the 80-man roster as a college free agent. Tampa Bay was sure a better option for Purvis than the Eagles, who had him in for a mere tryout Friday. Purvis ditched Philly 10 minutes into the workout when word came that the Bucs were offering an actual contract.
Why add a tight end, which doesn't appear to be a position of need? Because the Bucs just traded Alex Smith and probably wanted a little more depth at the position, at least during the offseason.
There also are some changes among the tryout prospects in attendance. One such change includes Louisville WR Pat Carter replacing Mississippi State WR Co-Eric Riley. South Florida C-G Jake Griffin also has been added.
Players are taking the field now. We'll let you know if there is anything further to report as the afternoon progresses.
