Afternoon session canceled, Bucs adjust to weather

With lightning in the area, the Buccaneers canceled this afternoon's workout at One Buc Place and got a taste of the challenges to come during training camp.

Summertime afternoon thunderstorms are a Florida staple, and with the Bucs relocating training camp back to their home facility this year, they must prepare to lose the indoor facilities formerly available to them at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

Coach Raheem Morris said the team on Wednesday will implement the contingency plan they intend to utilize during camp, moving up the morning practice a bit and beginning the afternoon practice much earlier than usual. The team will be on the field  by 8:15 a.m., more than two hours earlier than planned.

"We want to get it all in before 3 (p.m.) and come back in and meet when it's raining," Morris said.

The Bucs don't have an indoor practice facility like many teams, but general manager Mark Dominik recently said the possibility shouldn't be ruled out in future years. This fall, however, the Bucs must continue to improvise when weather prohibits standard practice schedules.
