Tampa Bay Bucs practice update: Morris plans afternoon walk-through
Today marks the last round of two-a-day practices and Coach Raheem Morris gave an enthusiastic appraisal of the team’s effort following morning practice in full pads.
“I’m starting to see the team develop its own personality,” said Morris. He plans a walk-through in the afternoon session in preparation for Jacksonville Saturday night.
“We’re going to come out and we’re good to run this afternoon…then after that we’re going to walk through the period,” he explained. “…I told them all last night. Nobody on this 80-man roster is worried about being cut. Because if you’re worried about being cut, then you probably already are. Right now you are playing your lights out. Don’t go around counting numbers, because we’ll keep the 53 best people. That’s what we’re going to do. Don’t count numbers at positions, don’t count anything. I don’t know what we’re going to do.”
Morris said defensive end Stylez White was held out of practice “with a little shoulder ding.” Tight end Kellen Winslow didn’t practice, either, but Morris explained that Winslow “is a one a day guy. He’s been a limited guy for a while.”
One other point of interest: Jermaine Phillips, converted from safety to linebacker to fill the void left by Derrick Brooks, took some snaps back at safety just in he might be needed due to injury when the games start to count “If we’re in a game and I have 45 guys with helmets on, and I have Flip (Phillips) playing linebacker, am I going to put my fourth safety in or am I going to put Flip in, who’s been starting for us a couple of years (in the secondary)? Those are decisions I have to make. Those are decisions we have to make. And those are things you have to start thinking about now. Because what did I tell you guys? There are no excuses. And that counts for me, too.”
