Buccaneers kick Mike Nugent owns up to poor performance

Kicker Mike Nugent made no excuses for a performance that very well could have been the difference in this loss here in Landover, Md.

Nugent "I felt like if I would have done my job, we should have won by three (points)," he said. "I thought everybody did a great job for it being such a close game. If I would have made those two kicks, we’d be going home with a win."

Nugent missed from 48 and 49 yards and had a 22-yarder deflected that just barely stayed good.

As for the misses, he said, "They were both hit good. For the first couple of seconds, I thought they were both going dead center. But then it completely changed. I just didn’t do a very good job."

Neither snap was perfect on the missed attempts, but holder Dirk Johnson did an admirable job of corralling the ball not throwing off Nugent's timing.

"I thought everything was fine," Nugent said. "I didn’t walk off the field thinking something went wrong. I just walked off the field thinking I just didn’t do my job."
