The Bucs signed receiver Yamon Figurs from a workout Tuesday morning.

Figures.

That's because the former Kansas State star played with quarterback Josh Freeeman, the Bucs first-round pick.

Figurs was selected from a tryout that included more established receivers such as former Jaguars wideout Matt Jones, Giants Super Bowl hero David Tyree, former Florida State star Chris Davis and Oregon's Jordan Kent.

In two pro seasons, Figurs has three catches for 86 yards in stints with the Ravens and Lions. Figurs also can contribute as a kick returner. He has a 23.3 yard kickoff return average with one touchdown and owns a 7.9 yard average with one TD on punt returns.

The 6-foot-6 Jones, who was released by the Jaguars after a series of off-field problems, might have had the most immediate impact. A former first-round pick from Arkansas, Jones has 65 career receptions for 761 yards and two touchdowns.

But Figurs is a safe selection. He has no off-field issues, can help on special teams as the fourth receiver and has a history with Freeman and coach Raheem Morris, who was the defensive coordinator at K-State in 2006.

Don't expect Figurs to make Michael Clayton nervous. Clayton leads the NFC with seven dropped passes this season, but he isn't about to be replaced by a player with three career receptions. The Bucs have not announced with player they released to make room for Figurs.
