Bucs coaches, players to blame for lopsided loss
This is one of those games where everyone contributed.
Unfortunately, many of those contributions were negative ones, helping the Bucs wind up 38-7 loss to the undefeated Saints today in Tampa.
Afterward, coach Raheem Morris summed it up.
"That was a total team loss from a coaches standpoint and a players standpoint and all around," he said. "We lost that game together."
It's unclear what coaching miscues Morris was referring to, but it certainly can be argued the Bucs should have been smarter about their offensive strategy late in the first half, when they gave the Saints the ball back with 1:37 left before halftime after running just 31 seconds off the clock. The Saints went on to shred the defense, scoring a pivotal touchdown in five plays to go up 17-7.
As to the players, Morris could point to QB Josh Freeman's poor performance. Freeman began the game with an impressive 95-yard touchdown drive, but his four turnovers were simply unacceptable.
"Today, he was just off (on) his throws," Morris said of Freeman. "He didn't have his rhythm."
The Bucs move on to Atlanta next week where they'll take on the Falcons, losers of four of their past five games.
