Players throw support behind Bucs coach Raheem Morris
The Glazers may not be talking about the future of Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris, but several players said after Sunday's season finale that they think Morris deserves another shot.
"Raheem is our coach, he’ll be our coach until otherwise," safety Tanard Jackson said. "He should be our coach, he's a great coach. He came in our first year had to work with what he had to work with. I know it’ll be different next year."
Center Jeff Faine said there has been no "uncertainty" talked about in the lockeroom, and that Morris did well considering the circumstances, the cutting of big parts of the nucleus before the season (Derrick Brooks, Warrick Dunn, etc), and the fact they're developing a franchise quarterback in Josh Freeman.
"I have faith in Raheem Morris, I have faith in Coach (Greg) Olson and I think these guys can get it done," Faine said. "You let a good nucleus of a team go last year, and it is a situation where you draft a quarterback to build around. If you're gonna build around somebody, you have to be able to stick with it a little bit."
Why does Morris deserve another chance?
"I think he's an up-and-coming, a very, very good head coach - I really do," Faine said. "I think his defensive coordinator skills, once he took over, I think everybody saw what he brought to the table when the defense was taken over by him, he started putting some good games together. I stick by him because the situation presents itself that we're rebuilding. It is what it is.
You draft a franchise quarterback, and you really let go of a good nucleus of a team last year I really think it's unfair to move on, I really do. I think he deserves a chance an opportunity to develop what we're trying to do. You can't expect him to go undefeated in the first year, I think that was very, very unrealistic."
