There's a lot of information on the Internet today about players coming and going, but sorting out what's right and wrong is a whole other matter.

The Bucs are said to be chasing Green Bay free-agent defensive end Aaron Kampman, and that would make a lot of sense given their lackluster pass rush and the fact the organization views him favorably.

But now that we've looked into the matter, we don't have any indication that's actually the case.

In fact, there is a great deal of concern within the organization about spending a large sum of money on a guy who is coming off a knee injury similar to the one suffered by Jimmy Wilkerson, the Bucs defensive end who also became a free agent today. Word is Kampman is coming along well, and that could be true, but who wouldn't be leery about a player coming off a torn ACL?

For the sort of money Kampman is going to seek, there's a certain level of risk involved considering he probably will have to sit out offseason workouts and have to play catchup come training camp.

What could change things is if Kampman sits on the market longer than expected. He was rumored to be headed to Philadelphia earlier today, but that has since been corrected. The longer a player sits on the market, the more the price tends to fall.

So, if and when it gets to a level the Bucs consider acceptable, perhaps at that point they'll jump on board. But as for right now, don't go special ordering any Kampman Tampa Bay jerseys.

For the record, Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said on WDAE-620 AM this afternoon that the Bucs supposedly haven't contacted any free agents today. I don't know that I buy that completely, but they certainly aren't hot on the trail of any big fish, near as we can tell.
