Bucs add Jon Hoke, retain assistants Embree, Spencer
Three more members of Dirk Koetter's 2016 coaching staff have been confirmed, including the addition of former Gators and Bears assistant Jon Hoke to coach the Bucs' defensive backs.
Two of Lovie Smith's assistants -- running backs coach Tim Spencer and tight ends coach Jon Embree -- will be back for 2016. Koetter said Friday that a "majority" of his offensive staff would be back, with some in different roles.
Hoke, 58, was Steve Spurrier's defensive coordinator at Florida from 1999-2001, then spent 13 seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs, including six years on former Bucs coach Lovie Smith's staff in Chicago. He spent last season as co-defensive coordinator at South Carolina, reunited with Spurrier.
In addition to Spencer and Embree, the Bucs will have quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian back this fall, though Koetter hasn't decided what position he'll carry.
Foxsports.com has reported three new additions to the staff, in former Dolphins assistant Mark Duffner (linebackers), former Bengals assistant Jay Hayes (defensive line) and former Titans assistant Nate Koczar (special teams), joining former Falcons head coach Matt Smith, Koetter's new defensive coordinator.
