Bucs bring in 26 locals for draft workouts

NFL teams are allowed to bring in 30 draft prospects for pre-draft visits, but they're also allowed a mass workout for local prospects who played high school or college football in the area. The Bucs took advantage of that Friday with 26 locals at One Buc Place, and while the team declined to release a list of names, we've been able to identify 21 of the 26 players.

The biggest name of the group looks to be former Plant and Florida State running back James Wilder Jr., whose father James remains Tampa Bay's all-time leading rusher. The team did confirm Wilder's visit, even tweeting a picture of him looking at a picture of his father in the hallways of the team's facilities.

The group also included most of USF's 2013 seniors -- 12 in all: quarterback Bobby Eveld, running back Marcus Shaw, fullback Ryan Eppes, receiver Derrick Hopkins, offensive lineman/tight end Lawrence Martin, defensive ends Julius Forte and Ryne Giddins, defensive lineman Anthony Hill and defensive backs Brandon Salinas, Mark Joyce, JaQuez Jenkins and Fidel Montgomery. It's worth noting that this doesn't include some of USF's top draft prospects like linebacker DeDe Lattimore and defensive ends Tevin Mims or Aaron Lynch.

Here's a cool pic from Salinas of he and Joyce wearing Bucs uniforms.

Others in attendance: St. Pete Catholic and Gators offensive lineman Jon Halapio, Armwood/Gators/Boston College offensive lineman Matt Patchan, Lakewood and Toledo receiver Bernard Reedy, Leto and Rutgers star Jeremy Deering, Gibbs and Abilene Christian offensive lineman Will Latu, Clearwater and Iowa State linebacker Jeremiah George, Lakewood and Western Kentucky twins Baree and Xavius Boyd and Boca Ciega and Bethel College safety Jocquel "Joc" Skinner.

Most of the locals aren't likely to be drafted, but they're being evaluated for the Bucs' rookie minicamp, which will take place May 16-18, the weekend after the NFL draft, with the team's draft picks, undrafted signees and other tryout players seeking a contract.
