Bucs call 1:45 news conference with infection expert
One day after the Bucs announced that guard Carl Nicks was diagnosed with a recurrence of MRSA staph infection in his foot, the team has called a 1:45 p.m. news conference at One Buc Place.
Bucs general manager Mark Dominik will address the media, along with Dr. Deverick Anderson, co-director of the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (ICON). No other details have been given.
The Bucs had two players diagnosed with MRSA in August -- Nicks missed the first two games, but declared himself "MRSA-free" and has played in the last two games. Kicker Lawrence Tynes will not play this season and was placed on the football non-injury list, which pays his 2013 salary but does not give him an accrued season toward retirement or 401k benefits. The NFLPA has filed a grievance on Tynes' behalf, citing concerns about player safety in the team's handling of the infection.
