Bucs' Demps has surgery for groin injury
Running back Jeff Demps, who the Bucs had hoped would add a spark of speed on offense and returns, is out indefinitely after underdoing surgery Thursday to repair a groin injury suffered in Sunday's loss to Philadelphia.
"I'm not sure exactly how long he'll be out," said coach Greg Schiano, not ruling out the possibility of the surgery ending his season.
The former Gators star and Olympic sprinter played only two games with the Bucs after joining the team at the end of his track and field commitments. He had three catches for 21 yards, a 14-yard carry and averaged 23.3 yards on four kickoff returns.
Schiano said he has options on kickoff returns, but he's been pleased with receiver Eric Page, who is the team's punt returner and averaged 30.0 yards on three kickoff returns before Demps stepped in.
