Bucs' Doug Martin inactive vs. Saints, Jacquizz Rodgers active
Surprising news from New Orleans, where the Bucs have made running back Doug Martin inactive against the Saints, with Jacquizz Rodgers active instead.
The Bucs had been vocal in their support of Martin, saying though his average of 2.92 yards per carry is worst among NFL running backs with 100-plus carries, that was more an indication of needing better blocking from the offensive line. Now, they'll move forward without him, likely with a combination of Rodgers and Charles Sims.
There was no explanation for Martin's absence -- it could be a benching, but also could be a disciplinary action for a violation of team rules.
The Bucs' other inactives are as expected -- injured tackles Demar Dotson and Gosder Cherilus and defensive end Will Gholston, plus three healthy scratches in defensive tackle John Hughes, receiver Bernard Reedy and quarterback Ryan Griffin.
