Bucs' Evans a favorite to win offensive rookie honors
Bucs rookie receiver Mike Evans, taken with the No. 7 pick in the NFL draft, has been set as the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, according to Las Vegas sports book Bovada.lv.
Evans came out Monday with 3:1 odds to win the offensive rookie award, just ahead of Clemson and Bills receiver Sammy Watkins, who was taken with the fourth overall pick. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, less assured of a starting role, has 15:2 odds, with another first-round receiver, FSU and Panthers star Kelvin Benjamin, next at 12:1, along with Louisville and Vikings star Teddy Bridgewater and USC and Jaguars receiver Marqise Lee.
Evans is enough of a perceived favorite for the rookie honors that the same site set over-under totals for his season stats -- 850.5 yards and 5.5 touchdowns. Top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney, of South Carolina and the Texans, is a heavy 2:1 favorite to win defensive rookie honors, with Buffalo and Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack next at 4:1.
The Bucs open their rookie minicamp on Friday at One Buc Place.
