Bucs' Hargreaves eager for rematch with Panthers' Benjamin
There's no telling how much Bucs rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves will line up against Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin on Monday night, but if he does, it won't be the first time.
In 2013, in the final game of Hargreaves' freshman year at Florida, the Gators took a 37-7 drubbing from Florida State in Gainesville, matching Florida's most lopsided home defeat since 1979. Benjamin -- with future Bucs QB Jameis Winston throwing to him on the way to a national title -- went off with nine catches for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
Hargreaves wasn't in coverage on the first two scores, but he was for a 4-yard lob in the final quarter of a 4-8 season, and he'll be motivated to face him again on Monday night, as Benjamin comes in with four touchdown catches in four games, showing how well he has bounced back from missing all of 2015 with a torn ACL.
"Extremely tough -- the first touchdown I gave up was from him on me, last game of the season," Hargreaves said. "He's a great competitor, likes to win, likes to play hard and same thing for me. I'm excited to see him again, to get after him on a bigger stage. Monday night, it doesn't get better than that."
