Bucs lose TEs coach Jon Embree to 49ers
Just when it looked like Dirk Koetter could go through an offseason without losing a single assistant coach, the Bucs have a departure.
Jon Embree, who has coached the Bucs' tight ends for the past three seasons, is leaving to join Kyle Shanahan's new staff with the 49ers, where he will coach the tight ends and also carry the title of assistant head coach.
Embree, 51, was a carryover from Lovie Smith's 2014 staff, and helped cultivate breakout star Cam Brate, who tied for the NFL lead among tight ends with eight touchdown receptions in 2016, also tying Jimmie Giles' Bucs record for a tight end. Embree coached with Shanahan with the Redskins in 2010, when he was the tight ends coach and Shanahan the offensive coordinator.
There was no immediate announcement of a replacement for Embree on Koetter's coaching staff.
