Bucs promote rookie Russell Hansbrough to be 3rd RB
With top running backs Doug Martin and Charles Sims held out of practice all week and unlikely to play tonight with injuries, the Bucs have promoted undrafted rookie Russell Hansbrough from the practice squad to the active roster against Carolina.
A corresponding cut will have to be made to make room for Hansbrough on the roster.
Hansbrough would be the Bucs' third running back, behind starter Jacquizz Rodgers and rookie Peyton Barber. Barber hasn't taken an offensive snap yet this season, and Hansbrough, just signed to the practice squad Wednesday, will be making his NFL debut. Hansbrough spent the offseason and preseason with the Bucs, rushing for 50 yards on 22 carries in preseason for a modest 2.3-yard average. He rushed for 1,084 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior at Missouri in 2014.
The Bucs could have as many as 11 rookies -- including six undrafted rookies -- not only on their 53-man roster against Carolina, but on the active 46 that will dress and play on Monday Night Football against the defending NFC champions.
