Bucs puts James on IR, sign RB Michael Hill
As expected, the Bucs placed running back Mike James on injured reserve, and to fill his spot on the 53-man roster, they signed undrafted rookie Michael Hill off the Packers' practice squad.
Hill, listed at 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds, played in two games this season with the Packers but did not have any carries. He starred at Division II Missouri Western, leading all the NCAA's divisions with 2,168 yards, along with 16 touchdowns. Hill rushed for 50 yards on 18 carries in preseason with the Chargers and opened the season on their practice squad. He'll wear jersey No. 44 -- you can check out a Youtube highlight video for him here.
The Bucs will primarily rely on Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey, who combined for 102 yards in Monday's win after James left with a fracture ankle on the opening drive. But Hill should give depth to a team that has placed four backs on injured reserve -- James and starter Doug Martin, as well as Jeff Demps and Michael Smith.#mce_temp_url#
