Bucs RB Sims needs surgery to repair torn tendon, IR/designated for return candidate
Bucs rookie running back Charles Sims will undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon in his anke/foot today and is a candidate to be placed on the injured reserve/designated for return list.
Sims suffered an ankle sprain in practice Tuesday. The team annoucned they expect him to return in 12-14 weeks. With two more weeks remaining in the preseason and the bye week, that means the Bucs are hopeful Sims could return as early as their ninth game against the Atlanta Falcons Nov. 9.
The Bucs can't apply the IR/designated for return status on Sims until the first week of the regular season at the earliest and will have to take into account other injuries to players at that time. Until then, Sims will count against the Bucs' roster limit.
