Bucs rookie LB McKinzy impresses at training camp
Bucs LB Cassanova McKinzy, a rookie free agent from Auburn, is making an early impression on coaches and leaving some welts on his teammates.
McKenzie unloaded on Austin Seferian-Jenkins Saturday following a reception during training camp, a legal shot that flattened the third-year tight end who was struggling for extra yardage. (video clip here)
"I'm just trying to bring the physicality to the team and the defense,'' McKinzy said. "That's the type of player I am. I like the physical part of the game.''
McKenzie has been working at strongside linebacker behind Ravens free agent Daryl Smith. On Friday, he got some reps with the first-team defense.
"It was just coach trying to get me some reps with the (starters) just to see the focus that they have,'' McKinzy said.
Koetter praised the Bucs' defense following Saturday's practice.
“The looks that’s they’re giving us, and they were real aggressive with their blitz today,'' Koetter said. "A lot of nickel off the slot, you know it’s great work for our quarterbacks to have to get the ball out of their hands. If we were playing real football, those quarterbacks would’ve taken some hits today, which is not good.''
