Bucs sign former first-round pick Larry English
TAMPA – The Bucs continued to recycle through defensive linemen Thursday, adding former first-round pick Larry English.
English was the No. 16 overall pick in 2009 – one spot ahead of former Bucs QB Josh Freeman. English, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive end, spent five seasons with the Chargers. He had 80 tackles and 11 sacks in 52 games (nine starts) after converting from an end at Northern Illinois to an outside linebacker in San Diego. The Chargers cut him last month.
Injuries continue to plague the Bucs’ defensive ends. Steven Means was not dressed for Thursday’s practice (before a lightning delay), and end/tackle Da’Quan Bowers was also not participating.
English is the fourth defensive end the team has signed in the last 10 days. He takes the roster spot of injured DT Jibreel Black, who was waived. Black had been sidelined in a walking boot.
