Cam Newton out, Derek Anderson at QB vs. Bucs
As the Bucs deal with major injury concerns of their own, they at least won't have to face the defending league MVP on Monday night.
QB Cam Newton will miss the game as he remains in concussion protocol, which means backup Derek Anderson, who beat the Bucs twice in 2014, will start against the Bucs on Monday night.
Anderson, 33, came off the bench in last week's loss to the Falcons and went 17-for-23 for 172 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, getting his most significant action since 2014. He quarterbacked the Panthers to two close victories over the Bucs, combining for three touchdowns and zero interceptions in those wins.
The Panthers will also be without their top running back in Jonathan Stewart and their starting left tackle in Michael Oher, as both were also ruled out Saturday. The Panthers will slide right tackle Mike Remmers -- a former Bucs practice squad player -- over to left tackle, giving an opportunity to a Bucs defensive line that could be missing four of its top five players with injuries.
Carolina has also ruled out rookie cornerback James Bradberry, further depleting a secondary that gave up more than 500 passing yards to Atlanta last week and has since waived starting cornerback Bene Benwikere.
