Cameron Brate to fantasy owners: Thanks for picking me up
Bucs tight end Cameron Brate scored his fifth touchdown of the season Sunday and finished with team highs of seven catches for 84 yards, and said he's appreciative to the fans who have believed in him in fantasy football.
"My phone, I had a lot of messages from people telling me they picked me up in fantasy football earlier in the week," Brate said after the Bucs' 36-10 win over the Bears. "I'm happy I came through for them. I'm trying to get my ownership up a little bit there. I told my friends they've got to give me some kickbacks if they win now."
Brate has connected well with Jameis Winston this season -- he came into the week tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns among tight ends -- and he was wide-open on a 10-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
"I could tell before the play that I think they were a little misaligned," Brate said. "Those are sometimes the hardest, when you know you're about to get the ball. I didn't trip or anything, which was good. Jameis gave me a ball and that was a big score for us."
Brate was born and raised in the Chicago suburn of Naperville and grew up a huge Bears fan, especially quarterback Jay Cutler, who he met briefly after the game.
"I went up to Jay after the game," he said. "I told him I was a big fan. He looked confused. He had no idea who I was, which was expected. I shook his hand, which is cool."
