Barrett Ruud considered camp walk-out
The Times has learned linebacker Barrett Ruud considered walking out of training camp on the advice of his representatives but has opted not to do so.
Ruud earlier today broke his silence and said he is upset about the team's decision not to sign him to a long-term contract extension. Ruud is simmering particularly because he was told in the spring of 2009 that an offer was forthcoming. That offer never materialized and Ruud staged an offseason holdout last summer as he went into the final season of his rookie contract.
Now playing on a one-year restricted free agent deal, it's becoming more realistic that Ruud will take his services elsewhere after the season when he becomes an unrestricted free agent and can test the market.
Ruud briefly wrestled with the decision to pack it in after reporting for camp on Friday but decided it was too out of character for him to take such an action.
It's unclear whether Ruud would reconsider.
"As of now," he said earlier today, "I’m just here working. Kind of doing what I’ve always done."
