Bennett talks about pending free agency
Defensive end Michael Bennett has had a breakout season for the Buccaneers, leading the team with nine sacks, which should net him a sizable payday this spring when he hits unrestricted free agency for the first time.
The Bucs value Bennett, who has blossomed since getting claimed off waivers in 2009 and become one of their more consistent defensive players the past two years, his first two as a regular starter. Tampa Bay gave him the highest tender ($2.7 million) as a restricted free agent this past offseason.
Bennett, 27, appreciates the opportunity the Bucs have given him, and is open to returning. But Bennett, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M, will let the situation play itself out.
"I love the Buccaneers," Bennett said. "But it's a business. You've got to do what's best for your family."
