With blackout deadline looming, Buccaneers still a bit short of sellout
The Buccaneers must meet a 1 p.m. deadline on Thursday for a sellout of Raymond James Stadium for Sunday's opener if local fans expect to see the game on television.
The team said today it remains short of a sellout but that it does not expect a blackout for the game against the Cowboys. The NFL requires that games be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff for the television blackout to be lifted. A blackout extends 75 miles from the stadium.
The Bucs have sold out every home game since moving into Raymond James Stadium in 1998, but an apparent sharp decline in the number of season-ticket holders has made filling the stadium much more difficult.
Per its policy, the team does not release specific numbers related to ticket sales.
