Buc teammates laud humbled Ronde Barber
On the day he made his 200th consecutive start, Ronde Barber had one of his better games with a sack, an interception, five tackles and two passes defensed.
But on Sunday, Barber was almost embarrassed to take any credit.
“It’s nice to be recognized for something,” he said. “I guess when you play long enough, you get the opportunity to be recognized for something like this. It was fun to watch this defense go out and the way we played.
“. . . Today, the way we played was something to be proud of. There are no individual performances. I pass that credit along to my teammates.”
Well, Barber’s teammates don’t agree. They looked at their elder teammate’s achievement with nothing short of awe.
“That guy, one day, my son and my daughter, I’ll tell them, ‘You see that No. 20? I played with that guy,’” defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said. “It was great to see all his old teammates talk (about him). I can say I was his teammate, and it’s a great honor.”
Said defensive end Michael Bennett: “He’s got his own holiday in Tampa. It’s great playing with Ronde. Ever since I got here, he was one of the guys who always believed in me. He always told me. I just look up to him for everything that he does. I followed him a lot to learn how to become a professional.”
