Buccaneers to go with three safeties -- for now
One of the things that's interesting about the Buccaneers' roster is that it has just three safeties -- Jermaine Phillips, Sabby Piscitelli and Will Allen.
Tanard Jackson has been a two-year starter at free safety but has been suspended by the NFL for a violation of its substance-abuse policy.
So, for now, the team has just three, leaving it dangerously thin at an important position.
One of two things will happen. Most likely, the Bucs will address the issue in the next day or so by bringing in an available safety. There are plenty available on the market and the Bucs have two open roster spots.
Or, a much less likely alternative would have the Bucs using cornerback Ronde Barber as a possible emergency safety until Jackson returns. That possibility was raised today by coach Raheem Morris, but it is, at best, less than ideal.
Look for the Bucs to pick up a safety in the very near future.
