Buccaneers rookie camp is underway
With the Wildcats, he didn't have a great deal of talent around him, which would account for much of his poor results over the years. It must have felt strangely familiar for him today, playing alongside a bunch of long shots who so far have lived up to expectations with a rash of dropped passes from the first-round pick.
Among those Freeman is throwing to are players like Mississippi State WR Co-Eric Riley (tryout contract) and Miami TE Chris Zellner (tryout). Seventh-round pick Sammie Stroughter of Oregon State is also in attendance and will be someone we'll watch closely throughout the weekend.
On defense, keep an eye on the linebackers in this camp. There's a good chance the Buccaneers will sign one of them as general manager Mark Dominik predicted last week the Buccaneers would sign a rookie free agent to augment the current lineup. There were no linebackers among the rookie free agents the team signed this week. Notre Dame alum Maurice Crum is an interesting prospect and someone the Bucs have a sincere interest in.
