Buccaneers to trot out backups for preseason finale
It's becoming clearer that the Bucs will play almost no starters in Friday's preseason finale against the Houston Texans.
Coach Raheem Morris said today that rookie quarterback Josh Freeman could potentially start. He added that running backs Cadillac Williams, Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham have probably gotten all the preseason work they're going to get.
One of the few starters who could see some action is safety Jermaine Phillips, who only moved back to safety from linebacker last week. He is still getting acclimated to the position after spending the entire offseason as a linebacker and not learning the nuances of the safety position in coordinator Jim Bates' newly-installed defense.
