Bucs to add another Pro Bowler
The Bucs will have at least one more Pro Bowler at this time next week.
With the Falcons and 49ers advancing to next Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, it will become necessary for either the Falcons’ Julio Jones or the 49ers’ Frank Gore to back out of the Pro Bowl, scheduled for one week before the Super Bowl in Honolulu.
Players on teams participating in the Super Bowl no longer can take part in the Pro Bowl since the game began being played before the Super Bowl.
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was the lone Bucs player selected outright for the Pro Bowl. But receiver Vincent Jackson and running back Doug Martin each were named first alternates, meaning they’d be the first options to replace Jones and Gore, respectively.
If Jackson goes, he would be making his third appearance in the Pro Bowl. Martin, a rookie, would be making his debut in Hawaii.
