Bucs announce new defensive assistants
The Bucs today announced in a news release that they have named Joe Baker defensive backs coach and Robert Nunn defensive line coach. They also promoted Kurtis Shultz to head strength and conditioning coach and Dwayne Stukes to assistant defensive backs coach. In addition, the club named Chris Keenan assistant strength and conditioning coach.
Details from the release:
Baker has 16 combined years of coaching experience at the professional and collegiate levels. He has worked in the NFL for the last nine seasons for the Denver Broncos (2007-08), St. Louis Rams (2006), Green Bay Packers (2005) and New Orleans Saints (2000-04). He also worked for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995-98.
In Denver, Baker helped LB D.J. Williams transition to middle linebacker for the first time in his career, as Williams finished second in the NFL with 141 tackles. Baker’s group of linebackers was part of an aggressive Denver defense that led the AFC and tied for third in the NFL with 34 forced fumbles in 2007.
Nunn, who will work alongside defensive line coach Todd Wash, has coached in the NFL since 2000, with the Miami Dolphins (2000-02, 2004), Washington Redskins (2003) and Green Bay Packers (2005-08).
Nunn developed and assimilated both rookie and free agent acquisitions into the defensive scheme for the Packers, leading to career seasons for Justin Harrell, Grady Jackson, Johnny Jolly and Corey Williams.
Shultz has coached in the NFL since 2003, with the Cincinnati Bengals (2003), Minnesota Vikings (2004-05) and the Buccaneers (2006-08) as the assistant strength & conditioning coach. Shultz has helped guide six players to eight Pro Bowl appearances since joining the Buccaneers in 2006.
Stukes has been with the Buccaneers since 2006 and has served as a coaches assistant from 2006-07 and the special teams quality control coach in 2008.
Keenan was the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning at Tulane University from 2006-08 and was the strength & conditioning intern for the Buccaneers in 2006.
