Bucs backup RB Kareem Huggins out for year with knee injury

The Bucs have lost backup running back Kareem Huggins for the season with a right knee injury.

Coaches hoped Huggins could provide an offensive spark coming off the bench.

"Kareem (Huggins) was the featured back for about five plays until disaster struck again," Bucs coach Raheem Morris said in a news conference on Monday.

With the running game stagnant through Sunday's game, Huggins' injury in the third quarter, coupled with fullback Earnest Graham's hamstring injury, left the running game thin.

Graham has what Morris called a "mild hamstring injury," and isn't expected to miss games.

With the running back corps depleted, the Bucs will likely rely more on LeGarrette Blount and Kregg Lumpkin, who were both inactive on Sunday.

"I'm confident in Blount and Lumpkin," Raheem Morris said. "I'm glad we have those two men on our football team."

Raheem Morris also addressed the need to correct the Bucs' lack of defensive pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

"We're not getting great pressure, Morris said. "When they are getting there, we're having smart quarterbacks get the ball off."

Asked about the lack of production from the Bucs' defensive line, Morris said "these guys have got to shed some blocks and make tackles. That's the bottom line."

Poor tackling was another issue the Bucs hope to fix.

"We missed too many tackles, Morris said. "We've got to get better."
