Bucs blackout update due early this afternoon

The Bucs in the past several weeks have played some of the most entertaining football we've seen in years.

Still, there's no assurance that Doug Martin's heroics and Josh Freeman's long balls will result in an immediate response at the box office. That notion was solidified by Monday's news from the Bucs that they still needed to sell nearly 9,000 non-premium seats to reach the threshold at which the local television blackout could be lifted for Sunday's game.

The Bucs host the Chargers on Sunday at 1 p.m., making 1 p.m. today the deadline to reach that level (72 hours before kickoff, per NFL policy). Based on our experience, selling nearly 9,000 tickets in such a short period of time is a tall order, even when a team is playing the way the Bucs are.

We'll know for sure in a few hours, so come back later for an update.
