Bucs C Faine takes exception to Ward's comments, says they didn't block differently

Bucs center Jeff Faine took offense to comments attributed to Texans running back Derrick Ward indicating the offensive line wasn't interested in blocking for him during his time in Tampa Bay.

"Personally, and I know it's the same across the entire offensive line, we have a job to do,'' Faine said. "Most of the time, I don't even know who's back there. I'm not even looking in the huddle. Just to give you an insight as to how our huddle is set up, he sits on the opposite side of the quarterback, so I'm not even looking down that side of the huddle.

"For him to say we block differently when he's in the game, I think that's pretty far from the truth. He's still a friend of mine and it's unfortunate he's decided to go this way and say the things he's saying, but we didn't block any differently with him in there than we did with any other running back.''

Ward's running back mate in Tampa Bay, Cadillac Williams, said he was not shocked by Ward's comments.

"To be honest with you, I'm not surprised he would say something like that. The guy is a good friend and I wish him the best. He's happy there, but I don't know if he really bought into the whole Tampa thing. We'll see. It's a long season.

"This here is a team sport, so when things aren't going right or aren't going well, the worse thing you can do is start pointing fingers.''

Bucs coach Raheem Morris didn't want to respond to Ward's comments.

"We don't want to talk about players that have nothing to do with the game this week,'' Morris said. "We're not comment about guys who have nothing to do with what we're trying to do, they have nothing to do with the race to 10 (wins), they have nothing to do with us dealing with adversity, they have nothing to do with us being resilient or us growing. I just wish Derrick Ward the best.''
