Bucs competing with Titans for free agent Sean Jones
Eagles free agent safety Sean Jones arrived in Nashville Sunday night for a visit with the Titans and hopes to make a decision on where he'll play next season in the very near future.
Here's the latest. Jones' agent said Jones had a very productive visit in Tampa on Friday that he thoroughly enjoyed, but he wanted to see what the Titans had to offer before making a decision. All indications are the Bucs have made it known they'd like to sign him.
The difference in the two situations might be the opportunity for playing time. The Bucs can promise Jones a chance compete for a starting job, whereas the Titans presumably are looking for him to add depth in the defensive secondary. Tennessee has two established and well-regarded veterans starting at safety in Michael Griffin and Chris Hope.
The Bucs would almost certainly give Jones a chance to unseat Sabby Piscitelli as the starting strong safety.
And, again, even the possible signing of Jones won't preclude the Bucs from drafting University of Tennessee safety Eric Berry if the club deemed him to be the best player on the board. It would, however, make safety less of a priority for Tampa Bay.
