Bucs consider changing of the guard, but Trueblood falls ill

October

The Bucs planned to give tackle Jeremy Trueblood a look at right guard today, but just before practice, he fell ill with a stomach virus.

Trueblood lost his starting right tackle spot to Demar Dotson. But the Bucs have struggled trying to replace injured Pro Bowl guard Davin Joseph and were looking to have Trueblood, Jamon Meredith and Cody Wallace compete with Ted Larsen for the spot. Larsen started the first four games at right guard.

"We're moving a few guys through there,'' coach Greg Schiano said. "As we talked about last week. We'll probably evaluate that some over Tuesday, the player's day off, and try to kind of lock into something. Maybe one or two guys at right guard, that's been the position that's been up in the air.

"(Trueblood) has some kind of stomach virus or something. He couldn't practice. He tried, but he just couldn't. We have a couple guys not feeling so well.''

The problem is that Schiano had the Bucs padded practice on Monday and had none planned for the rest of the week, making it difficult to evaluate Trueblood at guard.

"Well, it didn't come up until real late in the morning,'' Schiano said. "Otherwise we maybe wouldn't have put pads on, we maybe would've changed the day we did pads but that's just the way it goes.''
