Bucs cornerback Eric Wright out, causing shakeup in secondary
The Bucs will have to face the Falcons’ prolific passing offense today without their top cover man, cornerback Eric Wright.
His lingering Achilles injury will keep him out of today’s game, leaving the Bucs with a lack of depth in their secondary.
Wright will be replaced by undrafted rookie Leonard Johnson, who has played well and is tied for the team lead with three interceptions. With Falcons receiver Julio Jones playing today despite an injury, the Bucs will have to face each of the Falcons’ top targets, including Roddy White and tight end Tony Gonzalez.
Also inactive for the Bucs are safety Cody Grimm (hamstring), running back Michael Smith, linebacker Najee Goode, offensive lineman Cody Wallace, receiver David Douglas and defensive tackle Matthew Masifilo.
At cornerback, E.J. Biggers will start opposite Johnson, leaving LeQuan Lewis and Myron Lewis as the first cornerbacks off the bench. LeQuan Lewis has been playing more regularly and figures to be the nickel back.
