Bucs cut 10, reduce roster to 80
The Bucs reduced their roster to 80 men today, one day ahead of the NFL deadline.
The cuts are: cornerback Ashton Youboty, receiver Aundrae Allison, cornerback Vince Anderson, tight end Collin Franklin, defensive end Brandon Gilbeaux, receiver Detron Lewis, punter Robert Malone, receiver Jock Sanders, fullback Rendrick Taylor and guard Brandon Carter (waived/injured).
A few of the cuts were notable. Youboty, a former third-round pick of the Bills, signed two weeks ago as the team looked to add some talent to its secondary. It's evident that experiment didn't yield much. And with the Bucs now having been told that cornerback Aqib Talib will be eligible to play despite his pending legal issues, there's a bit less of a need at cornerback.
The decision to release Franklin was also notable because it's a signal the Bucs have a better handle on their tight end lineup. With rookie Luke Stocker -- the No. 2 tight end -- returning to the lineup, the battle between the remaining tight ends appears to be getting winding down. Daniel Hardy, a rookie seventh-round pick, is making a bid to be the No. 3 tight end.
Also noteworthy was the release of former St. Petersburg Catholic star Sanders.
