Bucs' defensive line coach leaving for Giants

27

January

The Bucs granted permission for defensive line coach Robert Nunn to interview for the same position with the New York Giants. Nunn, who was a co-defensive line coach with Todd Wash for Tampa Bay, was hired by the Giants Wednesday.

GM Mark Dominik said that the Bucs traditionally have had just one defensive line coach, but Nunn was hired in part because of his familiarity with the system of defensive coordinator Jim Bates.

Wash will serve as the Bucs' only defensive line coach next season.

"We do like Robert Nunn as a coach," Dominik said. "He certainly was an expert in Jim Bates' system, which is why we had two defensive line coaches in the first place.

"But the reason why we did this, and we take it on a case-by-case basis, is over the history of what we've done here in the Tampa Two, we've always had one d-line coach. So we have Todd Wash, who's familiar with the system. So that's why we let Robert Nunn interview for the job and, good for him, he got it.''
