Bucs draft Virginia Tech punter Bowden in sixth round
The Bucs addressed a big need today by drafting Virginia Tech punter Brent Bowden in the sixth round.
Bowden is said to have a strong leg with 33.6 percent of his kicks downed inside the 20-yard line. He had 40 punts of longer than 50 yards during his career and had a 42.2 gross average.
The Bucs saw punter as a need after going through three punters last season. They lost longtime punter Josh Bidwell to a hip injury in the preseason and released him at the end of the season. His replacement, Dirk Johnson, also was injured and missed the last five games with a hamstring injury. He was supplanted by Sam Paulescu who remains on the roster but was expected to be challenged in training camp.
The Bucs have five seventh round picks remaining in the draft.
