Bucs fear Davin Joseph knee injury is season-ending

Bucs Pro Bowl right guard Davin Joseph left tonight’s preseason game against the Patriots with a knee injury that, based on early word from the locker room, will likely be season-ending.

The play happened late in the second quarter when left tackle Donald Penn lost his leverage against a Patriots defender and pushed him to prevent him from getting to quarterback Josh Freeman. But Penn unwittingly pushed the defender right into Joseph’s planted leg, causing Joseph to immediately collapse in pain and grab his throbbing knee.

Joseph will undergo further examination to determine the extent of his injury, but the early prognosis was that it was that the injury was quite serious.

The injury would be a tremendous blow to the Bucs, who have built around their offensive line as the most experienced unit on their team. Joseph and left guard Carl Nicks have been hailed by many as the best pair of guards in the league.

Backup Ted Larsen replaced Joseph.
