Bucs get another shot at a defending champion in '11
The Bucs will play the defending Super Bowl-champion Packers next season, making it the sixth time Tampa Bay has played the reigning champs at the time in eight seasons.
How have the Bucs fared in those games? Um, not so well.
Tampa Bay is a combined 1-4 in games against reigning champions since winning its own Super Bowl in the 2002 season. And the games haven't been close, the four losses adding up to a combined margin of 112-23.
The good news? The Bucs finally broke the trend in 2010, beating the defending champion Saints in the season finale 23-13. Will the Bucs begin a new trend when they visit Lambeau Field in the fall? We'll see.
In the meantime, here's the rundown of the Bucs' past five meetings against defending Super Bowl winners.
2010: (two meetings) Saints 31, Bucs 6; Bucs 23, Saints 13
2007: Colts 33, Bucs 14
2006: Steelers 20, Bucs 3
2005: Patriots 28, Bucs 0
