Bucs get chance to take NFC South lead after Saints' loss
Practically no one saw this coming.
With the Bucs headed to New Orleans on Sunday for a game against the Saints, the Bucs can take possession of first place in the NFC South. This didn't seem likely prior to the Saints' upset loss to the Rams on Sunday, but that surprising 31-21 defeat against previously winless St. Louis has given the Bucs a big opportunity.
Tampa Bay sits at 4-3, tied for second with Atlanta in the NFC South. The Saints dropped to 5-3 with the loss. A loss to the Bucs on Sunday would give the Bucs possession of first place in the division and a 2-0 record against the Saints after their win over New Orleans earlier this month. Tampa Bay has won its past two games at the Superdome, in 2009 and 2010.
As an aside, the Bucs have a chance to improve to 3-0 in the division this season, having already defeated the Saints and Falcons. No team in the division has better than a 1-1 record in NFC South games.
The Bucs get back to work on Tuesday after the weekend's bye, turning their attention to winning a second game over the Saints in four weeks.
