Bucs get seventh-rounder Grimm under contract
Seventh-round pick Cody Grimm, a safety from Virginia Tech, has signed a four-year contract with the Buccaneers.
Grimm was the lone unsigned straggler among the Bucs' late-round picks, some of whom signed contracts nearly a month ago. Grimm will get a chance to make the team largely on the strength of his special teams play, but he brings a unique skill set to the secondary.
Having played a hybrid position for coach Frank Beamer at VT, Grimm is accustomed to playing near the line of scrimmage and was a productive tackler for the Hokies. His career numbers: 214 tackles, 26.5 for losses, 11.5 sacks and nine forced fumbles. As a senior, Grimm was named third-team All-ACC by the AP after leading the Hokies with 106 tackles.
In a game against N.C. State, Grimm tied a NCAA Division I record with three forced fumbles.
