Bucs' mandatory minicamp gets underway Tuesday

The Bucs will cap their season with a three-day mandatory minicamp this week, beginning Tuesday, and the good news is that they should enjoy near-perfect attendance.

The one player we can’t say for certain will attend is defensive tackle Brian Price. He has been absent from OTAs (offseason team activities) in recent weeks following the death of his sister last month. Price, according to his agent, has been working in California with a noted personal trainer who is trying to get Price back to optimum shape and health – with the blessing of the team.

Price was still not fully recovered from his severe pelvic and hamstring issues last season and has struggled to keep his weight down. Coach Greg Schiano said last week that Price may or may not participate in the minicamp.

Outside of Price, we expect a full house. There are no known contract disputes to speak of and the team is in mostly good health. This is the last chance coaches have to drill concepts into their players’ heads before the month-long break that precedes training camp, so it’s a critical time for the club.

These practices are required to be open to the media, per NFL policy, so there likely will be a great deal to share as the week proceeds.

Stay tuned.
